Ben is currently racing one of three Ascari KZ1R Supercars in the new FIA GT3 European Championship with Team Damax.

This new Championship, specifically for GT3 cars, will run as a stand alone Championship supporting the FIA GT Championship. Some of the most prestigious brands will be racing alongside each other to provide some excellent competition: Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Ferrari, Maserati and the all new Ascari.

At each event there will be two races per weekend and the races will be held at Silverstone (UK), Oschersleben (Germany), Spa (Belgium), Dijon (France) and Mugello (Italy). All of the manufacturers will be represented by teams rather than being able to run as a full factory team.

Having claimed a podium in the KZ1R’s first event at Silverstone from the back of the grid; Ben will be aiming for race wins by the end of the season.

GT Racing

GT racing stands for Gran Turismo or Grand Touring. GT sports car racing has a long history, but its popularity has grown in recent years. Racing car designs are based on standard two-seater and coupe road models. The GT race series are growing in stature as the category develops into a world championship alongside Formula One and the World Rally Championship. Many of the top sports car manufacturers are returning to production-based racing with Works teams.

GT racing is now being billed as a future world championship alongside F1 and World Rallying. In recent years it has experienced somewhat of a renaissance as vehicle manufacturers are increasingly looking for new ways to share in the excitement and potential opportunities that the sport offers. Although discussions are still at an early stage, the vision is to create a new sports car world championship based on a racing format that is exciting for both TV viewers and live spectators around the globe.
